Mozilla公司宣布将于12月17日关闭其Mastodon服务器Mozilla.social，正式退出fediverse。作为中间CEO Laura Chambers领导下的策略调整的一部分，Mozilla将集中精力于Firefox和人工智能，并缩减对非核心产品的投资。
根据报道，Mozilla.social当时仅有270名活跃用户，而最受欢迎的Mastodon实例Mastodon.social的活跃用户超过247,500。此举是在公司CEO辞职后，Mozilla早前就已提及将收缩对fediverse的投资，转而专注于核心产品。
Mozilla在一份内部备忘录中表示，未来会有“更小的团队”参与Mastodon生态系统，但未明确表示将关闭Mozilla.social。Mozilla称此决定十分困难，并感谢社区成员的反馈。
