科学家们呼吁公众进行“城市采矿”，以应对即将到来的铜短缺。研究发现，英国有大约8.23亿件闲置或损坏的科技产品，存放在“厄运抽屉”中，这些产品中包含多达38,449吨的铜，足以满足英国计划到2030年实现脱碳电网所需铜的30%。
研究指出，闲置电子产品可能包含价值约3.49亿美元的铜。
Recycle Your Electricals的Scott Butler呼吁公众开始回收他们不需要的电子产品，强调这些电缆和电子产品内含有宝贵的材料，如果被丢弃或存放，就会失去这些资源。
该组织目前鼓励大家访问其“回收定位器”，找到最近的回收设施。
