根据微软最新更新的已弃用Windows功能页面，Windows 7和Windows 8上使用的Windows Media Player和Silverlight客户端的传统DRM服务已被弃用。
这意味着在这些操作系统的这些应用程序中，将无法流式传输或播放受DRM保护的内容，包括个人CD的拷贝及通过Silverlight或Windows 8客户端到Xbox 360的流式传输。
DRM（数字版权管理）技术旨在防止盗版，但实际上却主要影响合法用户，未能有效遏制盗版行为。
