世界上海拔最高的天文观测站经过26年的筹备工作正式开放。
该日本东京大学阿塔卡马天文台（TAO）位于智利安第斯山脉的一座高山上，海拔5,640米（18,500英尺），用于研究星系和外行星的演化。
TA0的海拔高度甚至超过了位于5,050米（16,570英尺）海拔处的阿塔卡马大毫米阵列。
